The (Un)fortunate Wishes of Nelly Young

Look! Here it is! The cover for my new middle grade book (and can I say, one of my faves ever?), The (Un)Fortunate Wishes of Nelly Young.

It’s all about Nelly, whose biggest wish is be non-embarrassing for once. But when her wishes start to come true (half-term holidays with her besties! Rocking confident new-Nelly! ALLLLL the Mini Eggs!) Nelly soon starts to wonder if maybe her biggest wish is getting her old life back.

And of course, along the way there’s an out of control magician Dad (hiyer Mysterious Martin), a dog who can channel Harry Styles and a mortifying surfing misunderstanding. But maybe what I love most is that at its heart are three young girls starting to discover how unique and great they all are – and the power they have just being exactly who they are (sorry did that get a bit emosh?). Plus the illustrations are PURE MAGIC from the incredibly talented, and very funny @hannahworsleyillustration (The mutant hedgehog cake and aerial view of the horse, oh and sassy Derek – to name just a few – bring me so SO much joy).

It came out in the UK March 16th 2023, but is heading to the US soon (exciting)

“We couldn’t help but fall in love with Nelly, a super relatable heroine who we know young readers will adore. This is funny middle grade fiction at its best.”
